About The Estall Family
This is just a quick update to let you know that cousin Patricia has released a new story on our
Vendome (Vandome) relatives which you can see by clicking on 'Life of John Vendome' under 'Useful
Links'. Fascinating reading and thank you very much! If anyone else has family stories you'd like
to share, we'd be delighted to publish them here. We've also added a link to our 'Estall Family
Profile' at the Guild of One-Name Studies site, providing an overview of what we've discovered --
with all the help from everyone we've heard from -- about our family.

We're still busy on our new one-name which you can see by clicking on 'Eastlake Family Tree', but we
haven't forgotten the Estall family and still hope to do much more work on it in the future.
Remember that we've added another 500-600 descendants of Estall women and hopefully you'll find
something new in our tree. Much of our recent progress has been on the descendants of John Benson &
Elizabeth Ann Estall as well as John Neale & Sophia Elizabeth Estall.

My interest in the Estall family starts with my Estall mother and grandparents, who descended from a
branch of the family that includes many weavers from Bethnal Green. We now have over 1000 people
born with the Estall surname in our tree, plus another 10000 people related to these Estall's.
Except for one branch of 250 or so who are related to Charles Patrick (Connor) Estall who emigrated
to New Zealand, we believe that ALL of the Estall's (and descendants of Estall women) in our tree
descend from William Estall and Leah Holt and we show their connection in our tree. We've gained a
lot more confidence on the Estall's of the 1700s and, although there's still research to do, we
still believe that virtually all of us are cousins. Our tree contains people with the surname
Estall, their spouses and the immediate families of spouses (parents, siblings, siblings' spouses).
We've also included some maternal ancestral lines that are of particular interest, for example those
that trace back to Huguenot origins. We're continuing to add descendants of Estall women but there's
still lots of work here. Summary and detail reports of the descendants of William and Leah are under
'Useful Links' on the right of this page.

We still want to improve our confidence in our explanation of William and Ann Estall who lived at
Eccleston St, Westminster in the early 1800s. Please let us know if you have any better information.
We believe that the Charles Patrick (Connor) Estall line in New Zealand descends from this couple.
We no longer believe that William who died in 1828 descends from William Estall and Leah Holt.
Instead, we think that William of Eccleston St and his brother George Estall (and often 'Eastall'),
both of whom were coal merchants, probably came to London in the 1780s -- possibly already married
to their first wives -- and settled in the St George Hanover Square. There were a few earlier
Estall's in Westminster, but we haven't been able to connect these to the two brothers. However, it
appears that neither William nor George had any surviving sons. We think that Charles Patrick
Estall descends from William's daughter Mary Ann who married Thomas Connor (or O'Connor). We don't
yet know why Charles had a last name of Estall instead of Connor, but the 'Connor' name survived as
a middle name in his descendants.

We're still hoping to improve the Cook Islands part of our tree. If anyone knows of this family, who
we believe descended from Thomas Estall b 1814 and Elisabeth Robertson, please get in touch!

We now want to move the Estall history back in time, as well as get more confidence in the years
that we've already reconstructed. We think that the best way to do this is to start to apply DNA
results to the study. We recently took a Genetic Genealogy course and plan to set up a DNA Project
in the near future. Please let us know if you might be interested in participating!

Thanks very much for all the information you've shared and please sign our guest book. If anyone
has better information on anyone in our tree, please get in touch so that we can keep improving the
accuracy of our site. Also, if you would like to share stories, family photos or certificates that
we could put on this website, we'd appreciate hearing from you.

There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
